Shift Happens: Design Principles for a Virtual World

Individuals, groups, and organizations are responding and adapting to changing work and local and global environments. Explore the theories, tools, and techniques to create designs that will meet your group's needs.

Description

Just like individuals, groups can get stuck in self-stories and narratives that can limit their ability to grow and be adaptive. This course will teach you tools to help you co-learn with your groups what stories they are holding that prevent them from behaving differently, and how you can help them change those narratives through intentional design -- to get unstuck from the same-old, same-old.  Come learn how to support your group in seeing themselves in a new way.

You will experience a virtual community where we are all teachers and learners. You will leave the session with

  • A set of universal session design principles (applicable to both face-to-face and virtual environments)

  • An assessment tool to help understand your groups situation

  • A session planning tool to help you create powerful and inclusive designs

  • The theoretical underpinning of ToP Methods

We will be using Google Slides and Zoom for this training. There will be pre-work (1 hour) prior to the first session and about 30 minutes of homework for each of the three weeks  between the two training sessions.

Testimonials

I think it would be really helpful specifically for folks leading social change work. The idea of being able to visualize what we are trying to create (and what we are working to move away from) is really powerful. (Alan G)

I would definitely recommend this course to people. It modeled for me how participants can be engaged and cared for in an online space. A 100% of the people I know are asking and struggling with this question. (Zahra Syed)

Yes, I would highly recommend it. It allows experienced facilitators and trainers to have tools and understanding that can take their facilitation and training skills to the next level and stand out in a virtual environment.  Facilitators dealing with thorny issues or diverse audiences will benefit from these tools and being in community with others who are dealing with similar or thornier issues. (Rena Henderson Mason)

I would absolutely recommend this course! It helps you dive deeper into the meaning behind facilitation and understanding the steps that need to be addressed to properly identify equity and inclusion. (Maggie Morse)
