Smart Meetings 101 (Pilot)

At some point in our career or community engagement we are tasked with leading a meeting. It is assumed that we know how. Not really! We attend a lot of meetings and can recognize one that is well run, worth everyone’s time, interesting, interactive, or fun, and was well managed. If you are curious how the facilitator pulled it off and had the confidence to manage the group dynamics -- and you would like to be this person -- this is the course for you.

Description

In this one-day course, the intent is to:

  • To introduce the new facilitator to their responsibilities
  • To help new facilitators understand participant dynamics and preferences, and the importance of the facilitators presence in managing participation
  • To learn and practice meeting tools and templates to be able to design and lead simple meetings
  • To appreciate how different people participate and respond in meetings
  • Feel more confident in their ability to design and lead an effective meeting
  • To be motivated to continue to engage in learning about facilitation and ToP methods

To do this, the course is designed in five sections:

  • Defining Facilition
  • How to be Authentic and Embrace Facilitation Values
  • The Group’s Journey and the Facilitators Toolbox
  • Meeting Preparation
  • Applications and Resources

Course Applicable To:

Smart Meetings 101 is for those who are new to leading meetings and want to learn the fundamentals of meeting design and management, and want to build confidence to lead a meeting well.
